Alright, welcome to the Dark Ire tower role-playing guide! These are some helpful tips on how you should conduct yourself in a role-play. These are very important, and you should follow them, but they aren't like rules.
So here we go.
1) When you are making a post, make sure you use proper spelling, and grammar. Capitalize your I's, and make sure it is clear and understandable what you are trying to say. Never use leet, or sangs, unless it is within the context. For example.
He walked 2 the park. (This is NOT okay.)
He read the text message aloud. "Want to go 2 the park?" (This is in quotes, the text message was sent in leet, so it is fine.)
2) Character: Characters must stay within reasonable boundaries. Meaning, a friendly baker isn't going to be mean all of a sudden unless he is obviously bi-polar. If you say what your character is, then that is what he is. Posting thoughts are okay, and that should be used with italics, preferably.
Also, speak with your own character. Not following this, is god-mode. You can't make other people's characters speak, get cut to bits with a sword or get killed without a reasonable grounds to do so. You need to give the other player a chance to retaliate if you want to fight them. (And you need a motive)
Example:
Lord John ran up with a scimitar, and sliced off Darius's arm. "Ouch," said Darius.
(If Darius is controlled by another person this is god mode.)
Another important thing to remember: Role-playing= serious. Even if you are making a comical scene it should be seriously funny, not dumb. Dumb is like this:
Lord John threw a dart at Darius, it struck him in the arm and he looked at it. "That hurt real bad...I'm gona kill you now."
(There is no description or thought placed within the section, so here is a better post for the following...)
Lord John wiped the sweat from his forehead as he peered from around the stone pillar of the palace. He could see his arch rival enjoying the sunset, and thinking of Lord John's wife... Oh, woe upon me and his thoughts... I'll be damned if I let the villain live!. Lord John then flings himself from behind the pillar and throws the dart squarely at Darius with unequal precision.
(Next post is by Darius who is controlled by another, modest player)
The dart embedded itself into his arm, and he was shocked as he saw the steel protruding from his flesh. Then with a roaring fury he flung the projectile from his limb and drew out his sword. "Your a dead man! Dead man!" he screamed as he charged Lord John.
(Notice a few things: I added setting (important) I added thought, and plot- these are things that make a role-play, a role-play in theory. If you don't like making up plots, leave it to your players who will make up a plot that suits their characters.
Questions about other characters: There is some leeway-and you can obviously make references to them... here is an example that is not god mode, but still is using other characters.
Laura leaned idly against the cavern wall. She stared dully at her hands, yet she felt that someone was watching her, she looked up and down the left passage to see the venomous eyes of Gregory staring back at her...
(Gregory belongs to another character and so does the next one)
Samantha quickly darted through the cavern, she saw Laura staring at the fearsome Gregory, and quickly she grabbed her arm and pulled her along, "We haven't much time!" she screamed.
(Now if Laura does not want to be pulled along she could post this)
Laura tugged on Samantha's arm and finally released herself. "I can't... I still love him..."
(There, that is a good example...I will add more as time moves on...)
